Job Title: Development Engineering Team Leader

Have you been accountable for the project delivery and mentoring of Development Team members? Do you have an understanding, and some experience in the validation and verification processes of industrial or medical electronics from conception to production? Position Summary

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, to lead the Development Engineering team and manage the site laboratories.

Level of Autonomy and Experience

  • High level of autonomy in:
  • Managing a team of Development Engineers working on switch mode power supplies for Industrial, Healthcare and Technology applications.
  • Supporting the development and optimisation of performance to meet target specifications within cost and project plan milestone dates.
  • Planning and implementing acquisition of new lab equipment and ensuring it is maintained and calibrated.
  • Supporting the delivery of high integrity design for mass production to include ease of manufacture, field reliability over the product design lifetime and ease of customer integration.

  • Accountability for the project delivery and mentoring of Development Team members.
  • Having an understanding, and some experience in the validation and verification processes of industrial or medical electronics from conception to production.

Key Responsibilities

Design

  • Collaborate within an R&D team of electrical, mechanical, manufacturing engineers and technicians on supporting product design in line with company Core Values.
  • Manage the people and equipment in the labs to ensure test programmes are delivered safely, correctly, and on time according to company procedures.
  • Responsible for the testing to specification and compliance of designs.
  • Assist in the development and optimisation in all performance areas of switch mode power supplies.
  • Constructing and testing of early prototype breadboards and magnetic components.
  • Provide supporting documentation for design verification as required.

Team

  • Lead and manage the Development Engineering team in delivering projects from concept to manufacturing working collaboratively with colleagues across the business.

Documentation

  • Review and create engineering and associated documentation.
  • Ensure completeness of all documentation to assure smooth transition from product design and testing into manufacturing.

Project Management

  • Responsible for delivery of milestones by the Development Engineering team.
  • Planning of Development Engineering resources and capacity.
  • Report on assigned tasks as required
  • Liaise with other company departments to ensure that the required information is available when needed and customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Other duties may be assigned

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Supervision, 1st level leadership and management skills
  • Electronics lab safety procedures. Ideally experienced with risk assessment.
  • BTEC Electronic Engineering/Power Electronics or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of electronics performance and functional testing preferably with switch-mode power supplies.
  • Knowledge of EMC, thermals, magnetic design, analogue and some digital design.
