The role of the Supplier Development and Quality Manager has a dual reporting line. Direct management responsibility will sit with the local Head of Procurement. However, strategic direction for Supplier Development and Quality will be led globally by the Head of Supplier Development and Quality and thus there is a dotted reporting line to this role.

The purpose of the role of Supplier Development and Quality Manager is to successfully coordinate the Supplier Development and Quality team in order to support the development and maintenance of the supply base to deliver parts and products at the right cost and quality.

Responsibilities

Take responsibility for ensuring that the Supplier Development and Quality team manage supplied material quality issues raised by the factory or installed base. Ensure effective containment, Root Cause analysis and CAPA are conducted. Ensure all stakeholders are managed and investigations are fully documented by the team. Ensure NCRs, CLMs, Inspections have appropriate target dates and are managed to those dates. Ensure zero overdue quality records and tasks at all times. Prioritise team and escalate priority issues as appropriate.

Represent procurement group and provide technical, quality, operational and manufacturing Engineering support on new or updated products, including new supplier selection, setup and supplier resourcing. Support Engineering change and ensure designs are optimal for manufacturing prior to handover to normative line functions.

Focus the Supplier Development and Quality team on priority quality focus areas to ensure resource is allocated to supplier and quality issues which are having the biggest impact on the business. Be the point of escalation for such issues and reporting to Senior Management

Develop positive relationships with internal and external interfaces, including suppliers, strategic buyers, category heads, procurement heads, R&D, manufacturing and service ensuring customer requirements are understood and achieved. Ensure team are meeting the expectations of Internal and external customers.

Ensure team conduct and document part approvals using the appropriate tools and processes within agreed timescales. Promote pro-active quality management in product design and approval phase.

Drive the team to use appropriate Core Quality Tools (APQP, FMEA, MSA and PPAP) to proactively build quality into supplied product quality.

Maintain a high level of understanding of ISO13485, 9001, 14001 and their application to the supply chain. Work with QA to ensure supplier development and quality team, processes and records remain compliant.

Manage the supplier audit schedule and relevant supplier compliance processes. Ensure approval and compliance audits are relevant to the supplier and scope of supply (QAA/ISO9001/ISO13485) and Lead auditors have the required training and competence. Instigate unplanned/part/process or special audits as when required. Ensure findings are recorded and followed up within agreed timescales.

Ensure suppliers have current, compliant and robust Quality Agreements in place. Maintain annual plan for aged Quality Agreements to be reviewed and updated.

Support Category strategy, Cost down, sourcing board and resourcing initiatives ensuring appropriate Supplier Development and Quality resource is allocated.

Drive and support internal, external, QMS and cross functional process improvement initiatives. Update QMS documentation as required.

Drive team to deliver breakthrough supplier development initiatives and A3 projects which will help meet procurements QCDIM targets and requirements. Train suppliers in best practice tools, processes and initiatives, including LEAN, Six Sigma, Value Stream mapping, Value Engineering, DFM, DFA, PFMEA, Process Validation and technical/manufacturing capability. Address efficiency and output gaps where required. Ensure sufficient resource is allocated to supplier development and improvement projects. Ensure projects adhere to agreed timescales, a hopper of ideas is maintained and project status is tracked and communicated via appropriate forums.

Drive team to actively engage and participate in NPI, PCP and Programmes/Projects to promote DFM/DFA. Proactively drive quality into products through active participation in the Engineering change process, bridging suppliers, engineering and historical quality performance of parts to improve the quality of design. Raise Demand Management and Engineering change requests where required.

Work closely with global Head of Supplier Development and Quality, Supplier Development and Quality Managers and Senior Supplier Development and Quality Engineers to harmonise processes, deliver procurement excellence projects and share best practice and help deliver the Procurement strategy and objectives. Continuously strive to improve processes in order to reflect best industry sector practices

Support the selection and implementation of new suppliers according to the sourcing process and maintain the integrity of the approved supplier list and supplier data in relevant systems. Ensure supplier approval, supplier management and compliance documentation are maintained so we always remain audit-ready.
