As the Purchasing Assistant you will manage the purchased parts from both third-party suppliers and subcontract manufacturers, working alone or alongside other members of the buying team on designated projects to meet the needs of the business. This is a key role between engineering, sales and manufacturing, to supply high quality products at competitive prices within the shortest possible time. Additionally, and equally as important, the Purchasing assistant must also forge good working relationships with both suppliers and subcontractors, and feedback on quality or delivery performance again must be clear and concise to feed into the companies ISO9001 risk management requirements, with any potential issues highlighted to enable either corrective action where possible or the customer to be made aware of the impact.

  • Building and developing strong working relationships with suppliers
  • Purchasing goods, materials and services, considering price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply
  • Reacting to any issues and providing solutions to any supplier problems
  • Assisting the management of the critical path and ensuring stock is delivered on time
  • Procurement of project parts including bespoke / tooling manufactured drawings, communicating with design/development
  • Ability to communicate well with the team, internal customers and external suppliers, with an understanding of escalation process and requirements
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers and contribute to performance reviews to ensure supplier compliance
  • Continually assist to improve purchasing methods and drive down external spend
  • To report regularly on aspects of purchasing and supply chain activities and progress
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks as required by Management

To be successful in this role of Purchasing Assistant we would love to speak to anyone who has experience of:

  • 3+ Years in a buying/procurement role
  • Experience in using and working with an ERP / MRP system
  • Experience in engineering / technical buying
  • Knowledge of supplier evaluation/approval / auditing an advantage
