As the Business Manager, you will be responsible for a wide portfolio of existing accounts within higher and further education (University and College Libraries) and Corporate and Public Sector customers, selling a range of electronic and printed learning resources. You will be responsible for the retention and upselling of products to existing customers, and the prospecting and development of new accounts. Although a revenue-focused role, you will also develop non-commercial opportunities and new product developments. The role is flexible in terms of location within the UK, but covering Germany and France, and the position requires extensive and regular travel, including overnight stays.

  • The sale and renewal of databases to individual organisations on single or multi-year agreements
  • Achieving and improving upon agreed sales targets (new sales, upsells and account retention)
  • Acting as a principal negotiator and delivering powerful presentations
  • Targeting, establishing and negotiating sales with purchasing consortia groups
  • The demonstration and sale of databases to both new and existing customers
  • Sourcing and prospecting new business leads
  • Representing Emerald at conferences and exhibitions
  • Providing customer, market and competitor insight
  • Updating and forecasting prospects and sales to an agreed timetable

To be successful in this role of Business Manager we would love to speak to anyone who has experience of:

  • German and / or French speaking
  • Academic or business-to-business sales with proven track record of success
  • Driving Licence and able to regularly travel overseas
  • A background in selling into the academic / education market or B2B sales
  • Have a clear focus on achieving sales targets and new business growth
  • Take ownership for delivering results, possess the gravitas to influence key decision makers
  • Good organisational and IT skills
  • Experience of working in a sales environment
  • Ability to demonstrate success and experience of managing accounts and winning new business
