The Role of Account Manager

Develop and implement a direct sales activity programme which contributes to the delivery of the Fare Collection Division revenue plan by maintain and developing business relationships and securing the opportunities from customer accounts (principally Train Operating Companies), including existing and new accounts.

  • Contribute to the production, development and implementation of a direct sales strategy securing order intake and long term business development targets.
  • Evaluate the potential of key accounts for revenue generation potential.
  • Establish and maintain a key account liaison programme to assist in opportunity identification and customer account management.
  • Act as the Customer Champion and contribute fully to the development and production of bids for new business and services. Investigate and solve customers' problems, which may be complex or long-standing that have been passed on by MD, Software or Service Operatives.
  • Give sales presentations in support of bids and general business development activity.
  • Production of Period Reports on all direct sales activity.
  • Identify and analyse competitors (both rail and non-rail) and propose responses to threats through planned action.

What are the key (minimum) requirements for a successful Account Manager application?

  • Educated to A Level standard with significant previous experience working in a relevant Sales position.
  • Building and maintaining client relationships at all levels.
  • Proven experience in Rail Industry (processes, products, market developments etc.)
  • Experience of leading the commercial and technical negotiations with customers via presentations/conferences
  • Ability to champion and promote ideas that support business growth
  • Ability to review financial data and business cases to contribute to discussions on future strategic or tactical initiatives
  • An excellent negotiation skills and creative thinking.
  • Track record of B2B sales.
  • Outstanding presentation skills with the ability to engage with senior decision makers.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to engage in strong client relationships.
